Silent Scourge (Poem on Cancer)

My heart aches with proverbial twinge,
Indescribable pain engulfed thy spirit
Debilitating soreness transformed me into wilted point
Dismal abyss overwhelmed unspoken woe.

Moan of anguish welled out from my soul
Adversity crippled the future
Fallen hopes and must-haves faded with the coil
Entangled thoughts flooded my essence.

Hope is such a distant refuge
Safe haven uttered of deep prayer
Evil cancer- an unspoken foe
Silently metastasis and tissues torn in ragged pieces.

Life is in pain
Healing is such a distant word
Agony nagged thy fragility
Chemo wrenched whatever optimism is left.

Nay, body won’t succumb to trepidation
Lest I’ll be beaten by the silent cursed
Illness that plagued won’t consume me
In misery thy frail body won’t acquiesce.

Magnificent Nature (Poem)

By Lawrys Erren
Sec 2 Victory

Silence, Peace,
It was all that you could feel in the breeze.
It is what basically nature is,
All full of joy and bliss.

Flowers dance delightfully,
Like little children filled with glee.
Bunny rabbits come out of their burrows,
Hopping around no trace of sorrows.

Old trees stand tall,
Towering above them all,
Providing protection
Oh, yes, like a mansion.

Animals protect their kind,
It will blow your mind
With teamwork and skill.
Sad, we kill them still.

Don’t you see?
Nature is magnificent,
Yet, we ruin and destroy
A gift given to us all.

(One of the poems written in my Literature class by a Secondary 2 student.)

An Outstretched Hand (Poem)

By S2 Zeal

Love never ran deeper or stronger than when
It gushed not from the fountain of brother nor friend
Love is best when it falls from the sky, or is found in the sand
Love is best when it’s mercy from a stranger’s outstretched hand.

Once was a day when I found myself wanted
Memories good of my past are now haunted
The hands of a friend, are twice evil when used
Betraying, to point and to taunt you, ashamed and abused.

Sadness is nothing, yet nothing is sadder
Than a person cast to the wind, as they didn’t really matter
The insufferable pressure certainly tore me apart
A bitter rotten apple core, I call it my heart.

Imagine my surprise, when my “friends” came one day,
About to treat me like rubbish meant to be thrown away
When you swooped in and stopped them, after a while
Pulled me back up to my feet, and then gave me a smile.

It really wouldn’t have troubled you, only me
To turn around, to look away, pretending not to see
Lo and behold, you didn’t, but instead, like a gleaming treasure out of sand
Came to my aid, called me by my name, and took me by my hand.

(Composed by my talented students from Sec 2- Zeal spearheaded by Rafael.)

The Promise

The sunset promises a rest for the day
To heal the wounds wrought by yesterday
An assurance to take the worries away
To ease the pain and hope again.

The sunrise promises a new beginning
Each ray a light to find the way
The gift of zeal to face the day
The faith and strength to trust again.

A Happy Heart

I took this photo when we had an outreach program in Jakarta, Indonesia.

A happy heart is a grateful heart...
It appreciates trivial and vast things
It is beholden to every minuscule blessing
It is pleased to every person given along the way
It is satisfied to the very life bestowed each day.

A happy heart is a forgiving heart…
It does not keep ill feelings
It does not harbor negativities toward others
It vindicates the most painful wound inflicted.

A happy heart is a humble heart…
It does not boast of victories
It yields to the power of change
It admits vulnerabilities to human frailties.

A happy heart is a contented heart…
It is not jealous of others feats
It is not envious of what others have
It is not resentful when others are praised.

A happy heart is an open heart…
It accepts life as it is
It creates room for improvement
It acquiesces to life’s everyday surprises.

A happy heart is a prayerful heart…
It puts God as the center of everything
It trusts God that there are reasons for every situation
It has a strong conviction that God’s words are the ultimate truth.

A happy heart is a pure heart…
It wakes up with a purpose
It sleeps with faith
It lives in bliss contented with the knowledge that God knows best.

Travesty of Consternation

There's this feeling
Inside my heart is gnawing
The rage is boiling
The pain is burning.

For the loyalty.
You gave me HOPE

The Dance

The iridescent glow of the moon lit up the meadow.
The color of a new life coalesced with the blissful radiance.
The field- the dance hall…

Soft face rest upon sturdy shoulders
Two souls locked in harmony as the melody starts
Songs of the nightingale’s perfect
Two bodies sway in perfect timing…

The rustling of the trees brushed off qualms
The midnight dew waters thirsty hearts
The wind soothes away fears
The stars provided haven for love so unfathomable…

Time stands still
Hearts beat so fast
Souls matted
Wonderful harmony
PERFECT DANCE…

The Unsung Heroes

Their tasks are surely not easy
Difficulties abound
Challenges are endless
Compensation is limited.

They stir passion in writing
They inspire the youth to learn
They mold the future in their hands
They create models by touching hearts.

Teachers are everywhere
But those real are rare
Gems in the vineyard of knowledge
They affect eternity way and beyond.

Ocean of Dreams

I walked barefooted
On the cold white terrain
The sand teased my skin
With perplexing feeling.

As if in stupor
The gaze turned to the cloudless night
The blaze of the stars burnt my eyes
The barren heart was haunted.

Hope is enervated
Spirit is exhausted
The world is empty
Littleness hid in canopy.

I stared at the specter
Sad eyes, broken psyche
Draw its fate in water
Write its desire on sands.

The beads of tears fell in water
Vast sphere washed away melancholy
Ember of suffering
Unwittingly crushed.

There in the farthest dot of the sea
A tiny glimmer sparkles
A faint glisten yet there
The horizon where is thy dream.

Camouflage

She said with face ablaze, “It is okay”.
The heart writhed with twinge
Each beat a clout of pain
The heart drifted in silent throbbing.

With friends she laughed heartily
In reality the beleaguered soul bears misery
The mêlée of uncertainties so ruthless
Each cell in the body whimpered in agony.

To everybody she talked merrily
In truth she cringed in wretchedness
The hammer of loneliness pound relentlessly
In darkness, she comforts her small body.

To the world her face alight with joy and resilience
A perfect fighter in the world of anguish
Yet, her worn out spirit hid in camouflage
The abysmal abyss of pain resides.

Welcome to the Christian World, Jessica Elle

You’re taking this step of faith
In obedience to the Lord
To be baptized in His precious name
And heed the Master’s call.

To rise up with faith in God
And go where He may lead
To share God’s love to everyone
And touch them in their need.

May God pour out His blessings
Upon your life today
So you may walk in His abundance
As you commit to Him your way.

Keep on trusting in the Lord
No matter what you face
And keep your eyes on Jesus Christ
And live in His sweet grace.

No Time Poem

In observance of the Lenten Season, let me share with you this wonderful poem I have received from a friend...

NO TIME

I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work for bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.

All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.
No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need.

But at last the time, the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said
Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time.

Heart’s Wishes

As I lay daydreaming
In the comfort of the room
I thought of your sad face
So serious and forlorn.

Beads of tears ran down my cheeks
So swiftly I couldn’t get a grip
My heart ached with your pain
Your sorrows so deep I couldn’t bear.

My heart wished it could express better the depth of care
Or utter it painstakingly until you could feel
The cries of love might be loud enough for you to hear
Oh, I wish…how I wish…

Thy heart speaks of longing so ardent
To caress your face to cuddle your head
The ember of love may light up your face
And let loose of that pain so intense.

I wish my love could cradle you
Hug your spirit and lulled you to a tranquil sleep
I wish in dreams you’ll forget your worries
Into the dreamy wonderland may your worries vanish.

My heart wished as you gaze up at the stars
You’ll see the brightest one I sent and painted with love
May it sooth your heart and thy plight afar
Oh, I wish…how I wish…

The Saddest Poem

Inexplicable dejection hugs thy blissful spirit
Something intense gape a void, it cries out
A longing? A yearning? A profound hunger?
My heart was cradled in an empty space.

A need so immense eyes filled with glumness
Days become breathless with reminiscences
Love songs bring sweet tears of wishes
In dreams, warmth of breath the soul was comforted.

Suffering in Different Forms

Lifeless little body
Of a boy about eight
Lying on a pavement
Covered with newspaper
To conceal dreadful veracity
Eyes wide open
Died of hunger.

A girl sobbing
Cradled in her mother’s arms
The father was taken
Conundrum engulfed them
Sufferers of war
Dreams shattered
Family viciously ruined.

Heroes weep
Lonely in the dessert
Happiness devastated
Hugging and loathing their armors
Their only companions
Far from their little kids
Near their deaths.

A mother’s wretchedness
Remote from her son
Embracing his memoirs.
Then his casket is brought home
Emblazoned with patriotism
But her only cry
Enfold the man she borne into her loving arms.

Ethereal wishes flake apart
The soul was shorn of
The trappings of power victors
Disconsolate dreamers
Thrown in abysmal abyss
War, poverty, power…
The dawn of hope is gone.

Love

'Tis strange thoughts that mind was haunt,
Brazen stance awash thy fortitude
Naught besmeared with unsightly hope
In deep slumbereth pierced thy mystifying reverie.

Love is strange yet potent as a sword
It could perforate one's heart when oblivious
It navigates to feed thy soul
It fills one's heart with anticipation.

Love is indeed an ever-fixed mark
The origin unknown yet it beckons
To trust...to hope...total abandon
Trenchant wound at the end has no room.

It could lead to a zilch or magnificent ending
It could mar one's soul beyond mending
Yet, how one would know
If the heart's door would not open?

'Tis love that one feels alive
The ember of magical sensation stirs
The sagacity of elation burns
Thread of passion connects two souls.

Perfect Love in a Crazy World

Let me tell you a beautiful love story...

Once upon a time, the Prince met his Princess. She was the woman of his dreams while he was the man she prayed for. They met in a somewhat extraordinary way- where computer talked in a techno world. It would be apt to say a perfect match made in heaven.

More than the physical attraction was the meeting of two minds. The Prince was an intelligent and decent guy while the Princess was an innocent clever lass. However, the happiness was short-lived.

The Prince realized he had more than his share of raw pain caused by love so he decided "he can't fall in love". Getting old alone and lonely was better than to be vulnerable again with heartache. After all, he's happy and contented with his career and to have a woman in his life might just be a headache and trouble.

The Princess being naive as she was yielded to his will. After all, her experiences to male species was only limited to age ranging from 10-12 year-old. She was made to believe also that she would just be a nuisance in his perfect world. Therefore, she deemed it necessary to remind herself over and over again why she can't fall for him.

If you are familiar with Elizabeth Barret Browning poem, "How Do I Love Thee?", here's the Princess' version.

Why Can't I Love Thee?

Why can't I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I can't love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I can't love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I can't love thee freely, he's too independent for that;
I can't love thee purely, he won't allow me in his life.

I can't love thee with a passion, he won't yield to his heart
In my old grief, and with my childhood's faith.
I can't love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, I can't love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee after death but not in life.
